Meet the NEA

The Mississippi Museum of Art is hosting a conversation with National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu on Monday July 17, 2017, at 11:00 am.

Facing a threat of defunding, much like our own at the Greater Jackson Arts Council, the NEA has fought to save dedicated funding for arts at the federal level. Chu was recently at the Americans for the Arts Conference in San Francisco, welcoming attorney and civil rights activists Bryan Stevenson to the convention. Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi also spoke at the convention, reiterating her confidence that Congress, if left to its own devices, would maintain bi-partisan support for the NEA and NEH.

Chu's first visit to Mississippi comes in a time when we have faced funding crises at every level of government. Chu will open the event with remarks. Her remarks will be followed by a conversation with Chu and Malcolm White, Director of the Mississippi Arts Commission (who also faced funding uncertainties this year). The conversation will be moderated by Betsy Bradley, director of the Mississippi Museum of Art.
